How do the main characters of disgaea 3 learn special

If you level them up to a certain level, they learn moves that they as a main character can only learn. Example: Mao learns blast finger at level 10-12 or beat the overlord 1st time. Almaz learns help me goddes at level 70 or after you defeat dark Mao in chapter 7.
