Star wars battlefront 2 how do you get a soldier following you

if you go into options and the controls it tells you that pressing F4 will make a soldier follow you it will say in the top left corner follow me, but you cant do it if you are a hero and also in the career section it shows your rank:

private - can lead one man

Sergeant - can lead two men

captain - can lead three men

general - can lead four men

to stop a person from following you point at them and press F4 again and it will say in the top left corner move out
