How big can your house get on Animal Crossing

Well, if you have Wild World, you can get a full mansion and obtain a total of six good-sized rooms. If it's City Folk, then you only get three (besides the attic). A big main room, a small upstairs room, and a small basement. I'm not sure about the original Animal Crossing.
