Whenever i start up doom 3 on vista it says Doom has stopped working properly and needs to close.. how do i fix it

from Killer Koala: I read this in another article though I did not believe it. This problem is actually caused by some USB device attached to your computer that it doesn't like. I have found that certain USB joysticks, controllers, usb audio devices, and even usb keyboards can somtimes cause the problem!!
- Go ahead and detach anything USB besides your mouse and keyboard. You'll quickly learn that the game will functioning correctly. BUT YOU MUST DETACH THE DEVICES AND RESTART YOUR COMPUTER. Start your computer WITHOUT these devices attached and try to start your game.
- You can experiment further if you would like to see specificly what is causing this. In my case, it was a USB keyboard. In which case I could easily live without.
- Its some weird issue where the game crashes upon attempting to use a device driver it cannot use.
-!!** SUMMARY: Disconnect extra USB devices besides mouse and keyboard, then reboot computer without these devices. Do not reconnect these devices, and start your game.
