Does your PS3 have to be connected to a router to use remote play

No, your PS3 has wireless built in. It just needs a signal and your good to go. The only systems I'm not sure about is the first models that were introduced (with the small hard drives). I hear those were a little different, but not sure in what ways or how many areas.
