Are you going to be able to play as other characters besides snake in Metal Gear Solid 4

No. Solid Snake is the only confirmed playable character in Story Mode. However packaged with MGS4 is a starter pack for Metal Gear Online where you can create and customize your own character, aswell as play with several characters from the series including Solid Snake and Raiden.
