How do you defeat Calo Nord in Star Wars Knights of the old republic

Attacking Calo Nord while he counts down on Taris is not the time to kill him. You will most certainly die. Later on in the story line, he teams up with another antagonist and you will attack him and Calo together. This fight is relatively easy if well prepared.
