What are some good ideas for game I am making
It depends on what kind of game you have; I suggest sitting down at your desktop with three things open. The first [1st] being a tab of your favorite browser.

It is a random game idea generator. The second [2nd] program up should be your favorite text editor. The third [3rd] should be Game Maker itself.

Generate 25 ideas using the site. Read through them all. If you cannot find one you like, generate 25 more. Once you get one that you like, write it down on notepad. Do this several times until you get 5 good ideas. Once you have those 5 ideas, extend on what your mental vision of them is. Write down what you think of those ideas. Once you have done so, do a survey with some people. Use the internet, real life, or any other method of doing a survey. Eliminate the one that got the least votes, and redo the survey. Once you have only one idea left, if you like that idea, work on it. If you dislike that idea, start over.

Now you have an idea, but you still need to plan out your idea's progress. Get up paint. Make a basic flow-chart, designating what you will work on at which time. Add in plenty of loopholes to get to different parts of the game idea. If you fail at doing the collisions for instance, work on a different base level code needed, or sprite. Now you need to find out what you are overshooting on; what would take too long to program and wouldn't be worth it. Your top-down shooter for instance, wouldn't require procedural generated levels if you're doing a story based game. And you don't need fifty enemies; twenty enemies that pick a random sprite on creation would work just as well at reducing monotony.

Now that you've trimmed your fat, and you've got your flow-chart, you need a basic deadline. This deadline will only be an "If no progress has been made, I'm thinking of a new idea / reevaluating my production method." date. If you've made a good amount of progress by then, make a new deadline, which will be your next progress-hurdle. Doing timers like this will increase productivity.

If / when you finish your game, you need to beta test it. That means having some of your friends / people from the internet get a demo of several levels, and look for glitches. Fix those once you learn of them. Once the beta-testing is complete, you need to decide how you want to distribute it. Do you want to make the game a freeware game, a cheap game to be bought, or try to sell it for several dollars? Freeware games will get more popularity fast, and then you could make a paid-for sequel. Cheap games get good popularity, especially if it's like 99 cents. If you try to sell it for several dollars, you'll need to be very good at making your game. You don't need to make money with it, of course. Freeware is a good policy.
