Does solid snake commit suicide at the end of Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of the Patriots

Solid Snake originally was going to commit suicide at the end of MGS4, as was Hideo Kojima's intention, but the fans and other members of the development scheme did not want such a hero's life to end in such tragedy, so instead the ending was altered so that Solid Snake would live out the rest of his life with Otacon.
