How do you get different fruits besides cherrys on animal crossing

Every town you start is assigned a fruit tree like peaches, pears, apples, oranges and cherries but you can have diffrent fruit. You can visit a friends town cause they may have different fruit trees and might let you have some to take home to grow.

The best thing you can grow is coconuts which will occasionally wash up your towns beach. But you can only grow coconuts around water like rivers, ponds or the ocean.
