Firewalls are set in place at schools to keep students on track while they're supposed to be working. While you can sometimes add the "HTTPS://" prefix in front of the URL, it will only work some of the time.
Most of the time, you cannot completely get around firewalls because games often have things embedded in their pages that the simple "HTTPS" trick will not fix, so you will end up with blanked areas on some of the game. Browser games (or games that open their own internet browser to work, such as Webkinz or Club Penguin) are unable to be changed to "HTTPS" from the standard "HTTP" URL, so the firewall will block the actual game from loading.
