What is Hellfire Peninsula in World of Warcraft

Hellfire Peninsula is the starting zone in Outlands. Each factions starting city in the zone is: Horde - Thrallmar, Alliance - Honor Hold. Hellfire Peninsula (all of Outlands actually) was introduced in the Burning Crusade.
