Morse code is a method of transmitting text information as a series of on-off tones, lights, or clicks that can be directly understood by a skilled listener or observer without special equipment.

traditional it is sent as "dots" and "dashes" where dots are short tones or periods and dashes are long tones or periods. Letters of the alphabet (and numbers 0-9) are given a unique pattern of dots and dashes to represent them.

For instance the letter "S" is given three dots (...) and the letter "O" is given three dashes (---).
Thus the distress signal "SOS" is transmitted in Morse as:-
