The Unbreedable
The Solaceon Town Day Care Center is the key to breeding Pokemon, sometimes it’s the only way to get particular Pokemon. However, it is not as simple as throwing any Pokemon into the Daycare and wait for more Pokemon. Instead, one must consider a good number of things to get results. This is also how one can change what moves any particular Pokemon know.
Pokemon Compatibility:
This is the sticky mess of Pokemon breeding. Some Pokemon can mate with others, others cannot. That is all determined by Egg group what species can mate with another. The second part of mating is just how long one would have to wait to find an Egg. This section details the compatibility and what each message from the Daycare Man means.
“The two prefer to play with other Pokemon than each other”
These Pokemon are
NOT COMPATIBLE. It could be one or both of the parents cannot breed, they could be from different egg groups, be a genderless Pokemon (which can only breed with Ditto), they could be the same gender.
“The two don’t seem to like each other much”
The Pokemon are
COMPATIBLE, but are different species and have the same Trainer IDs. Expect them to take a long time to breed.
“The two seem to get along”
The Pokemon are
COMPATIBLE. The two Pokemon are the same species (and evolutionary level) and have the same Trainer ID or they are different Pokemon with different Trainer IDs. Will breed faster.
“The two seem to get along very well”
The Pokemon are
COMPATIBLE. The pair of Pokemon are the same species (and evolutionary level) with different Trainer IDs. Will breed the fastest.
After you've left your two pokemon in the day care center, talk to the day care center man (the guy standing outside the daycare center) once in a while to see if he has an egg for you. You can also use the day care center app which you get from inside the day care center house. It will show the 2 pokemon you left in the day care center, and if there is an egg you will see an egg in the middle of those 2 pokemon.
Inheritance:
While alluded to, it is important for the basics to be laid out clearly. What the Pokemon gets from each of its parents. From the female, it will get its species. From the male, it will get any of its potential moves. From both, it will receive, randomly, 3 of the parent’s Individual Values. When breeding for competition, this can be a vital factor that must be accounted for if one is aiming to breed a very strong Pokemon.
This list is are also part of what the Pokemon will inherit from their parents:
- Two Pokemon of the same species that share moves can pass their common moves to their offspring. (Ex. 2 lvl 36 Eevees that know Baton Pass will ensure any offspring have the move Baton Pass).
- TMs and HMs will always be passed on
Determining Egg Groups:
Even without a strategy guide or websites (like Serebii.net) there are ways to determine the Egg group of any given Pokemon.
1) Access the Pokedex
2) Choose Search Pokemon
3) On the right side, choose the bottom right option “form”
4) By choosing any of the icons, you will choose a particular Egg group
5) If they appear in the same section, they should be able to breed

Breeding with Items:
Like anywhere else, items play a vital role in the breeding of Pokemon. Some Pokemon require items to breed their baby form. Some people will use the Everstone when breeding to help increase the chance of getting the right nature (as it gives a high chance of inheriting the parent’s nature). The most important things in breeding particular Pokemon, like those below is to ensure you have the proper item on one of the Pokemon.
Azuril: Male Fairy/Water 1 + Female Marill/Azumarill Sea Incense
Bonsly: Male Mineral + Female Sudowoodo Rock Incense
Budew: Male Fairy/Mineral + Female Roserade/Roselia Rose Incense
Chingling: male Amorphus + Female Chimecho Pure Incense
Happiny: Male Fairy + Female Chansey/Blissey Luck Incense
Mime Jr.: Male Humanoid + Female Mr. Mime Odd Incense
Mantyke: Male Water 1 + Female Mantine Wave Incense
Munchlax: Male Monster + Female Snorlax Full Incense
Wynaut: Male Amorphous + Female Wobbuffet Lax Incense
Pichu’s Move:
Pikachu’s line got some special attention in terms of breeding involving the Light Ball on a Female Pikachu. If you breed a Female Pikachu holding a Light Ball with a Male from the Fairy Egg group, you will receive a Pichu that knows the move Volt Tackle.
The Basics of Egg Moves:
As stated in the Evolution of Eevee, there are things called “Egg Moves”. These moves are added through breeding a Male Pokemon who knows the move with a female of the species that you want to learn the move. Some moves can only be learned through this process for some Pokemon. It is also a good way to play around with the set-up and expected move set. Egg Moves can only be found with research, there is nothing in-game that shows all the Egg moves.
Ditto:
Ditto can breed with most pokemon, whether female or male. The resulting egg will have the species of that pokemon. So if you only have a male pokemon and cannot catch a female (for example if you have a male eevee, male togepi, or male starter which you get only one in the game) consider breeding it with Ditto. You can catch a Ditto in the Trophy Garden after getting the National Pokedex.
The Unbreedable:
Not every Pokemon is capable of breeding, even with the aid of ditto. For Legendaries, there is good reason. For some of the others, its simply they are not able to. Pokemon like Munchlax and Pichu are “Baby Pokemon”, earlier forms than could originally be found.
It is worth noting that Ditto cannot breed with another Ditto for a Ditto Egg.
