The world of Fallout 4 is as hostile as it can get and roaming out alone is not a viable option most of the times. Luckily, there are a number of NPCs whom you can befriend and make your journey a tad easier.

However, befriending these NPCs is not as simple as choosing a specific dialogue option or completing a couple of optional missions. You need to consistent in your choices, calculate your every step, and take NPCs’ likenesses into consideration.

Fallout 4 Companions Locations

Your relationships with these NPCs have different levels. You can carry any relation to a maximum relationship status and acquire special perks from these companions. Moreover, in case of some companions, you can also have a romantic relationship with them.

Lastly, you can bring along these companions with you while exploring the open-world and they will come in handy in a variety of ways. However, make sure to send them away before committing an action they don’t approve of.

Codsworth

Side-Quest/Location: Sanctuary

Codsworth doesn’t have any associated optional mission and can be located inside the Sanctuary.

If you’re looking for someone with amazing weaponry skills or who will lend you hand in combat, I’m afraid Codsworth is not the one you’re looking for. But where Codsworth lacks in weaponry and other skills, it’s insanely loyal which rare.

His special perk, on the other hand, is called Robot Sympathy which grants you +10 damage resistance against all robot weaponry.

Dogmeat

Side-Quest/Location: Red Rocket Truck Stop

Similar to Codsworth, Dogmeat doesn’t have any associated optional mission and can be located in the Red Rocket Truck Stop.

Do note that you don’t need to increase Dogmeat’s affinity as it begins at maximum. Due to this reason, his special perk is unlocked in the Charisma tree. You can use Dogmeat to tackle enemies aside from him being your most loyal friend in the Wasteland.

Deacon

Side-Quest/Location: Old North Church

Deacon can be found in the Old North Church and doesn’t have any associated optional mission.

Deacon can outshine his enemies when it comes to using the stealth approach and is a valuable resource for those who like to play the game in this manner.

Aside from this, he’s also one of the best field agents to be deployed by Railroad. Coming to his special perk, Cloak Dagger, it allows you to deal +20 increased stealth damage and +40 stealth duration.

Strong

Side-Quest/Location: Trinity Tower

Strong can be found inside the Trinity Tower and doesn’t have any associated optional mission. You’ll, however, find him alongside you in the Curtain Call optional mission.

Nick Valentine

Side-Quest/Location: Vault 114 [Park Street Station]/Long Time Coming

You stumble upon Nick Valentine inside the Vault 114 in Park Street Station and has Long Time Coming as his side-quest.

Nick Valentine can be considered as the Ocelot of Fallout 4 because of him being an excellent gunslinger.

He owns his very own detective agency and is a remarkable hacker. Once you reach maximum relationship status with Nick Valentine, you get Close to Metal which provides you with an additional guess and 50 per cent increased terminal cooldown during hacking.

X6-88

Side-Quest/Location: The Institute

X6-88 is another companion who doesn’t have any associated optional mission and can be found inside the Institute.
