Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Guide - Cheats, Exploits, Tips, and Tricks

Cheats / Glitches / Exploits

Can't Touch This: There are several enemies in Reckoning that can only move a set distance away from where the originally spawned  - of course, you see where I'm going with this. If you get an enemy to chase you for a particularly long time, there's a good chance they'll run back to their spawn without regenerating any of the damage you caused. Use this to your advantage.

Glitch for Gold: Reckoning's got a pretty interesting glitch involving item quantities. If you're selling something to a merchant in bulk, sell one less than the total amount. For example, if you have five items, sell four. Rinse and repeat. Enjoy this one while it lasts, as there's a good chance the glitch will be fixed as soon as they release the first patch for the game.

Modify Your Save File (PC ONLY):  Before you even think about doing this, back up your save game, because if you do something wrong, there's a good chance you'll corrupt everything and make your save file unplayable. Hey, you're playing with fire here. You'll need a hex editor for this one, by the way.

Open up your save file in said editor, and search for your player name with CTRL+F. The search should bring up two results - you're going to want to go with the second one. If you're not getting any information, double check to make sure that you've got your data-type set to text, and that you're searching forward, rather than backwards.

Once you get to the second instance, count four bytes (00 is one byte) back from your character name, and highlight the four bytes immediately after that - you'll be modding these. Change the value of the four bytes to 3B9AC9FF. Next time you play, you'll be sitting pretty with a million gold. (Original Source)

Save Manipulation: Kingdoms of Amalur involves a lot of randomization. Loot is randomly generated, drops are randomly generated, and the success rate of dispel and persuasion checks are percentage-based. If you're feeling considerably cheesy, save your game before entering and looting a room or attempting a persuasion or dispel check. If you don't like the result, load the save, and try again. Pretty simple, right?

Tips / Tricks

Get Yourself A House: If you're looking to nab yourself a place to stay as soon as possible, it's a good idea to visit the town of Canneroc. Look on the world map, and look for the word "Webwood" - it's right above it. Immediately upon entering the town, talk to Garaner Vernt to receive a sidequest - he wants you to hunt down and murder the militia captain, Barten. Don't do it. Rescue him instead, and on return to Canneroc, you'll be gifted with an upgradeable house in which you can change your appearance, store items, and level up your alchemy and sagecraft skills.

Mix and Match: Combining several different combat styles (melee and archery, or archery and magic) will increase the rate at which your Fate Meter fills - and it makes you more quickly able to enter Reckoning Mode. Switch continually between all three styles in a single combat for best results.

Reckoning Mode Bonus Experience: If you're going to go into Reckoning mode, make sure that you focus on the biggest, toughest, meanest enemy in the area as you're dropping out of it. The longer the kill animation (and the tougher the enemy) the more bonus experience you gain from it.

Save Your Lockpicks: If you notice the spring in a lock moving slowly rather than fast, let it go - there's a good chance that trying to force it will end up breaking your lock-pick. A successful attempt will involve a fast-moving spring.
