The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt: How To Manage Alchemy, Herbs, Inventory, Food and Weapons

As in any other big role-playing game, in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt it is very important to care about the order in the inventory. You can follow our tips if you are interested in have it as streamlined as possible, and in understanding what really matters and what not in the economics of CD Projekt RED's acclaimed title. Here's how to manage alchemy, herbs, inventory, food and weapons, then.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Alchemy and herbs:

With alchemy, you only need to gather ingredients once, carry only what you need to complete your potions. Herbalists are a very important resource: around level 4 you will meet the first one, there you can buy exclusively what you actually need.

Refillable items:

When you gather all your ingredients together and make a potion or bomb, the finished product will end up being a 2/2 or 3/3, meaning you have 2 or 3 separate uses. An item called Alcoholest replenishes every potion/bomb use. Other types of alcohol can't be substituted for alcoholest, it is a separate item that may appear as loot or that can be crafted in the alchemy tab. The game uses one alcoholest to restore all potions/bombs to full. This means that if you have 15 different potions and one of them is at a 2/3, an alcoholest will automatically be used to refill that potion when you meditate. Because of this, it's important to be aware of your potion/bomb counts in order to maximize the amount that get replenished, since you waste any potions you didn't use when you meditate.

Weapons and armor:

You can sell what you come across at the beginning of the game, since you won't find something better than the things you are carrying on some peasant. Things will change when you find good schematics. You can have silver, iron, steel, leather, wood and special item on occasion in good amounts but if you happen to carry many of them, don't be afraid of dismantling some. Just don't dismantle what you have never seen before, as it could have some use you don't know about; especially if it is expensive, you should let it stay in your inventory and don't dismantle/sell it at the first occasion.

Food:

Food has a great role at higher difficulties, since meditation won't have any effect on the regeneration of the health bar. So eat food first, and only when you're out of food use swallow, or at least use one swallow and then cram a bunch of food for intense moments.

Junk:

Junk includes objects such as razors, mugs, fishing poles, broken rakes. Dismantle them if you are looking for materials, instead sell them if you just need gold.

With these suggestions, you should stay at 30-35 items when your cap is 60, so you can make some maths and understand whether if you should get rid of some of them or keep running as you're doing.
