Far Cry 3 Secrets and Easter Eggs: The Islands Hide Many Mysteries

Far Cry 3 Easter Eggs

Far Cry 3 is more than just a regular FPS. Far from the linear offerings of shooters like Black Ops 2 and Halo 4, Far Cry 3 offers players with the freedom to explore the islands upon which the game takes place, relatively unrestricted.

Essentially, you can do what you want and go where you want, and there’s a lot of things in-between the game’s set piece missions for you to discover and even interact with, like camps you can take over, radio towers, and shanty towns.

In addition to military bases, pirate camps, and things of the like, Far Cry 3 contains a vast amount of places to explore, ranging from old WWII-era Japanese army ruins, sunken ships, and a variety of ancient temple ruins. Christian missionaries have also left their mark on the (very fictional, but inspired by very real islands in the South Pacific) Rook Islands.

Beyond those locations—which you can very easily find on the map, or at least purchase the appropriate maps to guide you to these areas—Far Cry 3 is also home to numerous secrets, many of which have yet to be uncovered, seeing as how the game just got released.

Some of these secrets come in the form of cutscenes (yes, Ubisoft actually went to some degree to make these secrets well worth finding), while others come in the form of secret areas that you can't otherwise locate.

As it is with every other secrets guide, you can expect a few minor spoilers in the following pages.

Assassin's Creed Easter Egg

Is Far Cry 3 a part of the same universe as Assassin's Creed? Maybe. All we know is that Abstergo has a presence on the island.

Gun Party

Who knows why they're shooting, or what they're shooting at? They don't seem to run out of ammo—so perhaps that's reason enough to do this.

Sick Soldier

That must've been one hell of a hangover.

Bioshock Easter Egg

This reference to Bioshock comes with the Lost Expeditions DLC, which is available only in the Insane Edition of the game.

Videogame Warning Easter Egg

The warning labels in the game are curiously worded.

Say Hi to the Internet Easter Egg

This easter egg is a reference to Christopher Mintz-Plasse's series of Far Cry 3 promotional videos.

Secret Cutscene: "Eat Me"

Eating these magic mushrooms beneath Dr. Earnhardt's mansion will yield curious results. Additionally, it's a pretty cool Alice in Wonderland reference.
