Car Town Guide

Car Town Walkthrough

.Car Town Unofficial Guide by Mongoose General for

Car Town is a Facebook game developed by Cie Games. The premise behind it is to collect and modify cars, which you earn by competing in races and completing challenges.

It features many official car manufacturers and is a great game for any Facebook-loving petrolheads.

This guide looks at all the basic sections of Car Town, providing hints and tips on how to get the most from the game's challenges, and offers details on levelling up, competing and cooperating with friends and making the most of the time you spend playing the game.

Currency

Coins:

Coins are the main currency in Car Town. They are used to buy new vehicles, items and all of the generic things that keep your town ticking over. For anything more unique, exotic, or potentially game-changing, you will need to use Blue Points.

How to get Coins:

You can earn coins by completing jobs, playing the game regularly, thus earning you Daily Bonuses (which can include other items as well as Coins), and through purchasing Functional Items to place in your Garage. These earn you Coins over minutes or hours and require no action on your part once you have positioned them.

Try to complete some of the game's Car Collections, which you can get the details of by clicking on the left-hand side of the screen, to get an extra influx of Coins upon completion. Levelling up wil also net you a healthy stash of Coins most of the time.

You can also purchase Coins with real money or Facebook Credits.

Points/Facebook Credits:

Also in Car Town is the Points Currency. This is calculated as a combination of Blue Points and Facebook Credits. As mentioned above, they are used to purchase some of the bigger and more influential items on offer to try and earn money for the game's developers. The game will always choose to spend your Blue Points before Facebook Credits, as the latter can be used in any game and so are a bit more valuable.

How to get Blue Points without earning them:

You can convert any Facebook Credits that you have into Blue Points, or purchase them directly through the Add Coins and Points Tab in Car Town. You should also keep an eye out across Facebook for ways to earn Facebook Credits, and in Car Town itself for contests and promotions. Look out below your Fuel gauge as this is where a whole heap of ways to earn Points appear - normally you have to pay for Points, so being able to watch videos or complete surveys to get them is a great idea. This section is called Watch and Earn.

You can't send Blue Points to friends or gift them, unfortunately. They are a premium currency, like real money, so they have to keep them hard to come by.

New players get Blue Points at the start of the game, while old players get 1 point each level.

XP

You can see your XP, or Experience Points, by looking at the meter in the top left corner of the game screen. The green bar shows how close you are to the next level, and the number underneath shows how many XP Points you physically have. XP is given for completing tasks and jobs.

If you click on the XP meter, you will see how close in terms of XP Points you are to the next level. It will also show you the reward for reaching that particular level.

Below you can see each Level, the XP required and the rewards for reaching each one:

Levelling Up Quickly:

As described above, you can see how far you are from levelling up by glancing at the meter in the top left hand corner of the screen.

To level up more quickly if you find that you are struggling to make progress, you should concentrate on doing as many 24 hour jobs as possible. These include tasks like Window Tint, Hydraulics and Nitrous Install. You can then go away and return to an influx of Coins and XP.

If you are not going away from the game for a while, you should instead do short jobs. Upgrade your Garage to have as many Work Bays as possible, then get people in for Car Washes and Fuzzy Dice. This rewards you with more XP in a shorter time period than the longer jobs.

Garage

Your Garage is the central hub of everything in Car Town. Quite a large part of the game focuses on upgrading and expanding it. Indeed, you can decorate it to your tastes, and even add additional floors to it as your operation expands.

Your Garage isn't only intended for you, however. You will notice cars queuing up outside it, waiting for you to service them. You can complete this task simply by clicking on them. Their needs will vary from full overhauls to a simple car wash. You can decide whether to take the job in the next screen.

When you first start the game you will have only a small Garage, and will be able to take on just one job at a time. You can upgrade your Garage to get more floors as you level up, and add new items, such as extra service bays. This will allow you to take extra jobs and have the money and XP piling in by reducing the cars queuing outside.

Edit Garage:

Click the 'Edit Garage' button in the bottom-middle of your screen to be able to make changes to the center of your Car Town universe - your Garage. There is actually an incredible amount of customization options available to you, including Work/Service Bays, props such as tire stacks, gadgets like Jukeboxes and ride-on children's toys. You can also reposition walls and add rooms.

Below is a list of all the Functional Items that you can buy for your Garage. Note the values next to the item name. This shows what benefit you gain from having the item in your Garage.

Functional Items:

Kiddie Spaceship - Earns 1250 Coins in 24 Hours

In the Edit Garage section you can also purchase Fuel.

Car Inventory:

The Car Inventory, or the Storage location for any cars that you have won or purchased, can be quite hard to find. To get to it, enter the Edit Garage section, then click on the brown Storage box, and finally click the car icon. This will allow you to drag the car into your garage.

Garage Expansions:

If you run out of space in your Garage, which will probably happen fairly quickly, you can use the 'Land Expansion' section of Edit Garage to give yourself some more space. Each of these expansions can be purchased with Coins, or Points/Facebook Credits, which you have to earn by completing surveys or through buying them with real money.

Note that once you get to the Garage Floor expansions, the next floor is of course the maximum 40x40 size, otherwise you would end up with a strange-looking Garage!

You are also able to make the fourth floor private, by clicking the padlock in Edit mode next to the number four at the bottom of the screen. This allows you to use it as a space to hide some of the more embarassing items you may have, or just to keep things tidier for visitors.

As you can see below, once you have purchased the previous expansion, you are able to jump ahead and buy the next one using Points/ Credits, even if you are not at the indicated level yet.

The list of Expansion upgrades are below:

15x15
20x20 [Level0/Previous Upgrade with Points]
25x25 [Level 17/Previous Upgrade with Points]
30x30 [Level 25/Previous Upgrade with Points]
35x35 [Level 34/Previous Upgrade with Points]
40x40 [Level 42/Previous Upgrade with Points]
2nd Floor [Level 50/Previous Upgrade with Points]
3rd Floor [Level 62/Previous Upgrade with Points]
4th Floor [Garage Value 9/Previous Upgrade with Points]

Garage Value:

You can see the current Level of your Garage, and the distance you are from the next level, just below the XP meter in the top left-hand corner of the screen. Click on the meter to see the actual value of your Garage in dollars, and the various boundaries to the levels above. You can see that list reproduced here:

Flimsy Garage - $60,000
Mediocre Garage - $75,000
Modest Garage - $200,000
Noteworthy Garage - $500,000
Cool Garage - $800,000
Impressive Garage - $2,000,000
Formidable Garage - $6,000,000
Awesome Garage - $12,000,000
Intimidating Garage - $20,000,000
Exalted Garage - $60,000,000

You can also click on the VIP Leaderboards option, which allows you to view the values of the top Garages on Facebook, and visit them, so you can see just how much time some people have invested in Car Town!

Fuel

Fuel is vital in Car Town, and serves as the Energy meter that you will find in most other Facebook Games. You use Fuel up by racing against other drivers, either in street races or on the High Stakes Track (currently closed). The other races in Car Town do not use it up.

If you want to purchase more fuel using Points/Facebook Credits, click on Edit Garage, you will then see the following options for adding more Fuel, without having to wait for it to recharge.

3 Gallons of Fuel - 2 Points/Facebook Credits
7 Gallons of Fuel - 5 Points/Facebook Credits
12 Gallons of Fuel - 8 Points/Facebook Credits

Jobs

As mentioned above, you will see cars waiting outside your Garage for a variety of services. You can also click on other cars around the game area to see if they require anything that you can provide. The best way to take on jobs, however, is to click a Service Bay in your Garage. Then you will see a list of jobs that you can simply click on to initiate. Be sure to collect from the job promptly to avoid losing customers!

Below is a complete list of all the services that you can perform. You will see how there are some really crazy ones as you level up later on in the game!

List of Jobs:

Fuzzy Dice
Car Wash
Oil Change
New Tires - Level 7
New Wheels
Paint Job
Window Tint
Wash N' Wax
Engine Tune
Nav System
Car Detail
Hydraulics
Wing Install
Spark Plugs - Level 8
Bullet Proofing - Level 9
Biofuel Upgrade - Level 10
Antenna Ball - Level 14
Smog Check - Level 15
Suspension - Level 16
Neon - Level 17
DVD System - Level 18
Nitrous Install - Level 19
Body Kit Install - Level 20
Monster Truck - Level 23
Car Stereo - Level 25
Jet Engine - Level 30

Before you unlock the better jobs later on, you should try to focus on the Wing or Paint jobs, if you can check the game regularly. If you are only able to check once per day, the Hydraulics job is the one to go for if you want the best XP for your efforts.

Later in the game, focus on the better, long jobs, such as Body Kit, Nitrous, Stereo and Monster Truck. If you collect from these within six minutes of them finishing, you also get a 10% bonus for not keeping the customer waiting.

Expired Jobs:

If a job expires because you were not back in time to collect on it, you can visit Doc's Lab, one of the game's more interesting locations (from Back to the Future). If you purchase a Flux Capacitor, and some Plutonium (available to be gifted), you can travel back in time and save expired jobs.

Restoration:

You can visit locations such as the Junkyard to view cars that need to be restored. These require a Workbay and Worker, as well as items. If you quit the restoration job, you lose the items that you have invested in the project.

There are also other jobs that you can take when clicking on one of your own cars. Each needs you to have hired some Friends as Workers. You can see a list of these below:

Road Trips:

You can go on Road Trips once you have some Friends to take with you. These earn you a certain amount of Coins per passenger that you take in your car. Hire a Friend as a Worker to be able to begin your trips.

Use the $4000 cars, (those are the Yaris, Pinto and the Beetle) and send them on trips with as many friends involved as possible to get the best return from Road Trips for the least investment.

Car Shows:

You again need a Friend/Worker to be able to take this on. A Car Show involves people voting on your car - so it helps if you have purchased some aesthetic upgrades for it. Once in the Car Show, you can share/tell your Friends to vote for you, increasing your chances of winning.

The best way to win Car Shows easily is to buy cheap cars and then add on as many aesthetic modifications as possible. These include things like high suspension, ridiculous alloys, neons, spoilers and so on. There is no point in adding performance boosts to a Car Show entry, as it will not help you get a good result.

Deliveries:

You can use service vehicles or your own car to deliver various items across Car Town in short jobs that earn you a few Coins.

Customization

To customize one of your own cars, simply click on them, at which point you will see the Car menu, then select the Customize button. You are then taken to a new menu, allowing you to change the paint colour, add vinyls and graphics, change your car's alloys, tires, body parts, lights, suspension style, window tints, as well as a host of performance enhancements.

You can also upload some custom images to use on your car, really giving them that personal touch.

Click on your avatar to be able to customize him too! You can change a few areas to make your character distinctive if you are in someone else's Garage.

Storage

You will notice that you also have a Storage option in a few of the game's shop sections, which is where you can place any items you do not immediately use for later purposes. Your Garage can only hold a limited amount of items and cars, so using Storage is vital for keeping things tidy.

Recycling:

If you have previously purchased something that you now no longer need, you can drag and drop it in the Recycling Box. This will earn you Coins and clear up space for other cars and items. Note that you will lose the items permanently, and can not necessarily get them back!

Races

Street Racing:

At the start of the game, Rusty will be the only one who challenges you to a race. To accept, simply click on his vehicle. You can also go in search of people to race by visiting some of the game's Hot Spots (accessible via the GPS). You will find cars in the parking lots for a few of the game's Hot Spots. You can also, of course, race against your friends.

If you mouse-over a car, you can see its power lined up against the amount of money on offer should you be able to beat it in a race.

To physically win a race, you obviously must be the first car across the line. You need to click once, when the countdown timer reaches zero. Then, you will see a rev meter. Each time the line moves across the green strip on the meter, you must click again. This simulates changing gear. Change gear too late and you will slow down and lose points. Change gear too early, and suffer a similar fate. If you can consistently change gear accurately, and are in a good enough car, you will win plenty of races. You get bonus points for changing gear exactly on the green marker, doubling your reward, but this runs the greater risk of changing late and losing points. This allows you to take on more powerful cars. The winner is based on the 'score', which is determined by the quality of your gear changes.

It is a good tactic to buy one car and spend a lot of money on performance upgrades. These can drastically improve weak cars and be far cheaper than investing in expensive high-end cars, yet allow you to beat some of the game's best.

Daytona International Speedway:

The Daytona International Speedway section of Car Town is quite a robust area that is accurately modeled on the real racing environment of the Daytona circuit. The first thing to do in undertaking a Speedway career is to build your stock car. With that done, you have another racing element. Click and hold this time for the length of the green lines running along the bottom of the screen.

If you win a race, you get to keep the stock car that you picked! It takes 6 hours to prepare for a race, so bear this in mind when deciding to take part in one.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway:

Very similar to the Daytona Speedway, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway requires you to pick your driver from all the available teams, then build your car. The racing mechanics are exactly the same as for Daytona, except you first have to qualify for the season. Once you win that race, you are entitled to take part in a full season of 17 tracks. Should you be the overall winner, you will unlock a trailer for your driver.

NASCAR Pro Championship:

Initially, in the NASCAR Pro Championship series, you have to race in qualifying sessions, hoping to perform well and attract sponsorship. With that, you will be given a place in the Pro-Championship. The Pro-Championship consists of 3 races. Win them all to gain fans, experience and achievements.

High Stakes Track:

There used to be the opportunity for you to race against other players of Car Town and place bets on who would win. This could be against anyone playing the game, rather than just your friends. It is currently shut down, however.

Friends

The main purpose of Friends in Car Town, apart from to show off your great Garage and cars to, is to hire them to work for you! Look in the bottom right hand corner of the screen and you should see an icon representing Workers. The number next to it indicates how many you can hire. This number increases the more you level up to a total of 8.

You can see a list of the levels at which you get more workers below:

Unlock more Workers:

Level 3: Worker 2 and Worker 3
Level 6: Worker 4
Level 11: Worker 5
Level 16: Worker 6
Level 21: Worker 7
Level 26: Worker 8

Having Workers allows you to go on Road Trips, enter Car Shows and take more jobs in your Garage, with Workers and Friends staffing extra Work Bays.

Sponsorship:

You can Sponsor some of your Friends' garages by clicking the Sponsorship icon in the middle at the bottom of the screen. This allows you to give their Garage a cash-injection and, if they perform well enough, receive a healthy Coins reward.

Gifts:

You are able to send your friends gifts, completely for free, to help them in their Car Town experience. If you do so, they are more likely to return the favor and send you some - if you can get to a position where you are having gifts coming in all the time, it can really give you a boost.

Fuel is one of the best gifts, as it can really give your Friends an edge.

Service Trucks:

Every so often you will come across a Service Truck broken down near your Garage. Click on it and post it to Friends. This is the only way to get these vehicles and for Friends who ned it, it can be a valuable addition. They are also likely to return the favor, allowing you to get the vehicle yourself.

Rusty:

You start the game with Rusty as a friend. This is to simulate what happens if you recruit real friends into your game. You can visit Rusty's Garage, challenge him to races, and generally perform many of the tasks that you can with real Friends.

Bonuses

Car Town Game Show:

With the Car Town Game Show you are able to spin a wheel and hopefully win some great prizes. These can include new cars, items and more. You need to use special Game Show Tokens to be able to take part in the Game Show itself, and can purchase these using Blue Coins.

3 Blue Coins - 9 Game Show Tokens
10 Blue Coins - 30 Game Show Tokens
20 Blue Coins - 60 Game Show Tokens
50 Blue Coins - 165 Game Show Tokens
100 Blue Coins - 345 Game Show Tokens

Daily Bonus:

Play the game on consecutive days and the game will reward you with an item or Coins. This is to encourage people to become addicted to Car Town and keep coming back to it.

If you string many days together, you will often find a new Car as a reward, so it is worth monitoring the Daily Bonus board to see what you get for making it 7 days of Car Town with no break!

Other Hints and Tips

Get a Great Car Early On:

Having just started a game of Car Town, visit the Buy Cars section. You will notice that the first item is a Bronze Mystery Box. Purchase and place this and you have a good chance of getting a very decent car to start your collection.

How to Get Ice Cream or Taco Truck:

These two vehicles can only be received from Friends. Check their feeds regularly and be sure to click on a link from anyone who has found them.

Pass the Test Mission:

A few players have had issues trying to complete the Pass the Test mission. This requires you to find other Racers by travelling to other locations, but frequently it is impossible to find anything to Test Drive!

The solution is to wait until Level 13, at which point you will be presented with a VW Golf GTi 2010 or a '08 Cadillac Escalade to test drive. Remember that to be able to keep a car that your have taken for a Test Drive, you need to win a specified number of races in a set period of time.

Unable to Hire Workers:

If you are getting an error message when trying to hire a new Worker from your Friends List, saying that 'This person isn't your friend yet', try logging out of Facebook and back in again. Also, bear in mind that if you just added the person to your Facebook, you may have to wait 24 hours before you can hire them in game as it takes some time to filter through.

Giving Elbow Grease:

To give 'Elbow Grease' to your friends, visit their Garage and click on whatever car they are building. You can give 5 per day, with 1 Elbow Grease being doled out per click.

Cheats

There are no legitimate cheats for Car Town. The only way to get unlimited Blue Coins, completely free, involves hacking the game, which risks your Facebook account being suspended and can compromise any legal progress that you made through the game. The whole point of games like Car Town is to reward people who invest time and money in them, so cheating invalidates this somewhat.

You can always set up a dummy account if you are struggling to get Friends. You can race against this account for easy rewards.

Free McLaren F1:

A while ago there was a rumor spread that you could get a free McLaren F1 in Car Town, normally by following a link and Liking the page. You then had to post a message to 7 Facebook Friends to be given the car. Except you never are. The site is just trying to get you to post their link and get your personal details. You should never post spam messages like that on Facebook - the source will always be a dodgy one like this.
