Cities: Skylines (PC) - Roads and Traffic

The Road
A good mayor in Cities Skylines respects, of course, on the traffic in your city. So it does not end up like in New York. So we have a few tips for you.
The different types of roads
Of course, you have the choice between different road types, four in number:
- The Normal Two-Lane Road
The two-lane road is the cheapest road and designed for easy transport. You can also decorate them with grass or trees that reduce noise pollution. In addition, you can build it as a two-lane two-way street. The gravel road is only intended as an alternative route, a kind of dirt track. The two-lane road is most suitable for residential and commercial areas.
- The Four-Lane Road
The four-lane road is designed for moderate traffic. However, it is also more expensive than the two-lane road. Again, decorating with grass or trees reduces noise pollution.
- The Six-Lane Road
The six-lane road is designed for heavy traffic. As the two-lane road you can build a two-way back. Again the same thing applies for the building with grass or trees.
- The Highway
The highway is intended to connect various city centers. Suitable for high speeds and lots of traffic, but the value of the surrounding countryside and has high noise pollution. To reduce you can, however, install noise barriers. Note: Highways are of course always one-way streets!
Intersections and Roundabouts
Again, you have again the choice between several types of connecting roads.
- Small Roundabout
The small gyro is suitable for residence areas, as it is built with trees, which embellished the cityscape.
Cities: Skylines (PC) walkthrough
- Cloverleaf junction
The cloverleaf junction offers great advantages in high traffic areas.
- Large Roundabout
The big roundabout is like the little roundabout, just not as well suited for residential, since it has no edge development.
- Triangle-Intersection
The triangle-intersection is intended motorways etc. Join each other.
- "Free" Intersections
Of course you can also do manually. For this you have to know how to perform Manual intersections.
Manually Built Crossings
Intersections don’t always act the same when it builds. You should note the following:
- Intersections of two-lane roads never have traffic lights. This is good for traffic, since no waiting times.
- Four-lane road junctions always make traffic lights. This increases the volume of traffic, so avoid them if possible.
At six-lane roads where it gets complicated.
- A two-lane road that meets on a six-lane road requires a set of traffic lights, on both the inbound and the outbound lane.
- A one-way street, falling on a six-lane road only needed on the incoming road traffic lights.
- One-way streets, which assumes a six-lane road never need traffic lights.
Traffic
- City service vehicles (garbage collection, fire service, etc.) will always keep on the road and there blocking traffic. The following vehicles are not trying to drive past it in a roundabout way. Thus, the observed traffic at your planning
- Trying to get along with as few lights as possible. Traffic lights cause a lot of waiting time in traffic, so one way streets, etc. are always a good choice to avoid congestion.
- Vehicles prioritize multi-lane roads, depending on where they want to go. Will a car turn right, it will always pick on a dual carriageway the right lane. Considering that in your town planning. Build particularly behind any buildings that are served by service vehicles, as otherwise your back up to the main road.
Footpaths and Roundabout
The key to building cities in Cities - Skylines is a liquid transport, otherwise service buildings, such as hospitals, schools, etc. can not function properly.

It is best if you, as far as possible, dispense with junctions and replacing it with roundabouts. In addition, pedestrian paths reduce traffic immensely. If one connects each house with a footpath that leads in commercial areas such as the traffic volume is much lower, as citizens go everywhere on foot down and be on the streets almost only service cars.
