How to Reduce the Cost of Training Prayer in RuneScape Using Quests

TIME :2022-07-03

Prayer can be one of the most expensive skills to train in RuneScape, a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game, as there aren't really any ways of earning money from training Prayer. Training Prayer therefore can only be done by spending large amounts of money, or through other activities and skills.

There are a number of ways in which the cost of training can be reduced, although in many cases these can increase the time spent training. This is by no means an exhaustive list.

The methods here use other skills, activities and quests to help to reduce the cost. The fastest way is by spending a lot of coins to train Prayer, but this has the disadvantages that time needs to be spent building up a cash pile of possibly hundreds of millions of coins to do so, and this may be at the expense of training other skills.

This series of articles on Prayer training looks at how using other skills and activities can help to reduce the cost of said training.

This article looks at how to reduce the cost of training Prayer using Quests and Quest Rewards.

Other articles will look at how the cost can be reduced by:

Using the Task System, the Ectofuntus, Random Events and Bonus XP Weekends and Bones and Demonic Ashes
Using Construction, Crafting and Dungeoneering
Using Minigames
Using Distractions & Diversions, Specific Monsters and Useful Items

Various quests give either experience rewards or lamps that can be used to train Prayer. Either the experience will be assigned specifically to Prayer, or the reward will be one where the player can choose which skill to assign it to, with Prayer being an option. Doing quests can be a cheap way of training, as often the quest will be being done anyway. Other Prayer training options may also become available after completing certain quests.

One Piercing Note 250
Rag and Bone Man 500

The Rag and Bone Man/Wish list and Fur 'n' Seek/Wish list are not quests themselves, but lists of extra items that may be recovered after completing each quest. Once each wish list is complete, the experience point reward will be earned.

Quest Experience Lamps and Rewards

Some quests provide rewards, experience lamps or other items that can be used to train Prayer if desired. Most experience lamps cannot be banked.

For those rewards that can be used on multiple skills, Prayer is one of the best to use them with, given the cost and time required to train it otherwise. The two others that are good to use these rewards on are Construction and Summoning.

Swept Away - 10 Bowls of goulash that give experience of ten times the current skill level.

Darkness of Hallowvale - A Tome of experience which gives three lots of 2,000 experience in any skill over level 30. This comes to 6,000 in total, although it does not all have to be in the same skill.

Legacy of Seergaze - Tome of xp 2nd ed, which gives three lots of 2,500 experience in any skill over level 35. This comes to 7,500 in total, although it does not all have to be in the same skill.

Branches of Darkmeyer - A Tome of xp 3rd ed which gives three lots of 50,000 experience in any skill over level 60.  This comes to 150,000 in total, although it does not all have to be in the same skill.

Troll Stronghold - Two Mysterious lamps that give 10,000 experience each in any skill over level 30.

The Temple at Sennisten - 1 Experience lamp granting 23,000 experience in any skill of level 50 or above.

One Piercing Note - Gives the ability to make Illuminated god books. These are upgraded versions of the normal God books that can be assembled after completing Horror from the Deep. Each book illuminated will earn 10,000 Prayer experience the first time it is made. The Holy cithara can also be retrieved from the reliquary in the basement for an extra 50,000 experience the first time it is obtained.

The Void Stares Back - 2 Books of equilibrium, each of which can be used to gain 50,000 experience in any combat skill, except Constitution, that is above level 75.

Nomad's Requiem - The 70 Zeal Points reward can be spent on Prayer experience, the amount gained depends on the level of Prayer.

Ritual of the Mahjarrat - Three Experience lamps that will give 80,000 experience each in any chosen skill of level 72 or higher. Additionally, returning to the ritual site after the quest and speaking to Arrav will give you 3,000 Prayer experience.

Blood Runs Deep - Three lots of 150,000 experience in Attack, Defence, Strength, Constitution, Ranged, Magic or Prayer. The skill has to be level 75 or higher. Using these rewards on Prayer is the most effective, as everything else is much easier and cheaper to train.

Other Quest Benefits

Ghosts Ahoy - The Ectophial, which allows a player to teleport directly to the ground floor of the Ectofuntus.

Legacy of Seergaze - The ability to kill Vyrewatch, Vyrelords and Vyreladies to obtain and burn Vyre corpses.

Rag and Bone and Fur 'n Seek Wish Lists - The Skeletal Horror may be fought once per week for Prayer experience.

Shades of Mort'ton - The ability to play the Shades of Mort'ton minigame which allows players to burn Shade remains and Vyre corpses to get Prayer experience, as well as other rewards.
