Mark of the Dragon - Tips, Tricks, and Strategies for Leading Your Dragons to Glory

Calling All Dragon Riders:
Want to know what we liked (and didn't like) about all this fantasy fighting? Check out our Mark of the Dragon review!

Mark of the Dragon from Gamevil is a strategy/battle game that plays similarly to Clash of Clans. There's one twist, however: you can breed dragons and raise them to be rideable war machines. Not surprisingly, this small gameplay tweak is pretty cool.

But fighting isn't easy - even when you're commanding things from the back of a giant lizard. Here are some tips and tricks to help you succeed in the dragon war.

Keep the Home Base Safe and Stocked

  • Guard your eggs - Dragon eggs are arguably your most valuable resource in Mark of the Dragon. They take time and effort to breed and hatch, and the resulting offspring forms the backbone of your assault force. Other players can steal eggs during a raid, so defend them accordingly. Build walls around your nest, and put weapons nearby.

  • Upgrade your resource depots ASAP - Upgrading the most important structures in your base, like your headquarters, requires a lot of resources - more than you can hold when you first begin playing the game. It's extremely important to upgrade your resource depots whenever possible so you can amass the iron and wood necessary for major building projects.

  • Raids provide tons of resources - Low on wood or iron? Mark of the Dragon's single-player campaign provides opportunities to score tons of resources. Get out there!

How to Train Your Dragon

  • Breed high-level common dragons to get uncommon dragons - Common dragons aren't to be trifled with, but their low defenses put them at risk of being extinguished quickly. Level-up your common dragons, then breed them for a better chance at creating a stronger uncommon dragon.

  • Breed uncommon dragons for a better chance at getting rare dragons - In the same vein, breeding uncommon dragons increases your chances of getting a rarer beast. And so on.

  • Sacrifice common dragons for dragon essence - Common dragons and other weaker dragons may not be much good on your force, but they can be sacrificed for essence that's used to strengthen your main drakes. It's not very nice, but it's necessary and effective.

  • Complete daily challenges for dragon essence - Another way to grab dragon essence is to complete daily challenges. Log in every day to see what's on tap, and make sure to finish the job before the time limit expires.

Fighting Alongside Your Scaly Pals

  • Place your dragon far away from the action - Arming dragons for a fight is a two-step process. First, you need to put them on the battlefield. Then, you need to ride on them. This can be done quickly, but if you dispatch your dragon too closely to an enemy base you risk having it pummeled by catapults before you can do anything. Place your dragon far away from an enemy base, mount it, and then carefully approach the stronghold.

  • When raiding, take down dragon-harming defenses first - Catapults will make hamburger of your dragon if you're not careful. Take down defense towers first, and the rest of the base will fall in no time. Make sure not to overheat your breath weapon and leave yourself helpless while destroying weapons.

  • Don't neglect your dragon's secondary attack - Each dragon has a secondary attack that, once used, recharges over time. Don't neglect secondary attacks, as they can deal devastating damage or heal your dragon(s).

  • Use your troops - Sure, Mark of the Dragon lets you command giant fire-breathing reptiles, but the little guys still count in this war! Don't forget to recruit and level-up your foot soldiers. They can be very handy for softening up defenses like catapults and archer towers.
