Trees and crops produce the resources that you will need to survive on Monsterama Planet. After you have set up a basic base, you can start constructing other types of buildings and decorations. Buildings and decorations produce resources for your base.
Every action that you take in Monsterama Planet, takes a certain amount of time to complete. For example, constructing a building can take a few minutes. When you first start the construction of a building, you will lay out the foundation of the building. Once the foundation has been laid out, you will have to work on the building in order to complete the construction. Sometimes a building will require you to have a certain type of resource. If you do not have that particular resource, you can spend gold bars to purchase them immediately. Before I downloaded Monsterama Planet, I did not really know what to expect from the gameplay. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Monsterama Planet felt familiar, yet had its own original story behind it. The game starts with a small tutorial, teaching new players how to properly play the game and letting them get used to it. After the tutorial ends, the gameplay becomes pretty straightforward, but still pretty fun to play nonetheless. I really liked the fact that the artwork and music of Monsterama Planet fit each other pretty well. The graphics and music are not of very high quality, but they fit the general gameplay and the overall theme of the game. Monsterama Planet is a pretty average game, but I never expect much from a mobile game anyways.
Unfortunately, there are also several negative aspects about Monsterama Planet. For starters, the game has a lot of pop-up advertisements implemented in it. The pop-up advertisements are not from any third parties, but rather from the developers of the game itself. They will usually show up and state that there are offers within the in-game store. I do not mind when free-to-play games have advertisements in them, but pop-ups are very annoying and obstructive to the gameplay itself. I believe that the developers of Monsterama Planet should rather advertise their deals in the in-game store page itself, rather than showing pop-up advertisements about it.
The second negative aspect about Monsterama Planet is that the game has too many currencies in my opinion. Having four different kinds of currencies makes the game feel like a cheap cash grab, especially because it is difficult to obtain the premium currencies by playing the game itself. Of course, you could try to complete offers through Tapjoy, in order to obtain currencies for free, but Tapjoy is known for having a lot of glitches in it. People often complain that they do not get their rewards after completing the offers, and this leads me to believe that nor Tapjoy, nor the developers of Monsterama Planet really care about their loyal players. Of course, you can contact Tapjoy and tell them that you did not receive your rewards, but this usually takes a long time and they often do not respond positively to your emails.
Artwork: I give Monsterama Planet a 7/10 for its artwork. The graphics and animations of Monsterama Planet are pretty decent, considering that this is a mobile game. You can tell that the game is meant to be played by kids, but I can imagine that a lot of older people are playing this game. In my opinion, the game mechanics of Monsterama Planet are good enough to be played by adults. It is very nice to see that the characters in Monsterama Planet have idle animations, making the world map feel more alive due to them moving and showing facial expressions. The developers did a good job at combining both the graphics and animations.
Music & SFX: I give Monsterama Planet a 7/10 for its music and SFX. There are several soundtracks and sound effects in Monsterama Planet, and they are of decent quality in my opinion. I like the fact that there are different kinds of soundtracks in the movie, making the game more enjoyable and entertaining. Having different kinds of soundtracks also will make players less prone to get bored and bothered. There are several sound effects in the game, from constructing buildings to leveling up, and they all match the overall theme of the game pretty well. The music and SFX of Monsterama Planet could have been of higher quality, which would have made them all easier on the ears.
Story & Originality: I give Monsterama Planet a 7/10 for its story and originality. The game mechanics and concept of Monsterama Planet has been used so often already, that there is really nothing original about it anymore. It is basically a city building game, but instead of a city, you need to build a base on an alien planet. Constructing buildings take up currencies and time before it can be finished. The only real originality about Monsterama Planet is the story behind it. It is nice that there are cute monsters on the alien planet, whom you need to find, rescue and shelter. Because of the story, Monsterama Planet is a fairly enjoyable game in my opinion.
General Gameplay: I give Monsterama Planet a 6/10 for general gameplay. The gameplay in Monsterama Planet starts off with a tutorial, telling you the story behind the game and teaching you how to properly play the game. After you learn the basics, the gameplay becomes pretty straightforward, but still fun to play due to the amount of buildings and features you have in the game. Unfortunately, there are a lot of negative aspects about the gameplay of Monsterama Planet. For starters, there are a lot of glitches in the user interface and the world map. Placing buildings can be a hassle due to the fact that the map moves around on its own at times. This could be a problem with my device, but I doubt it. To make the gameplay more enjoyable, the developers of Monsterama Planet should look into fixing these glitches.
Addictiveness: I give Monsterama Planet a 7/10 for addictiveness. Fortunately, there are no limitations in playtime implemented into the gameplay of Monsterama Planet. However, the sad thing is that constructing buildings and taking certain actions can take several hours, even whole days. Of course, you can speed things along by spending crystals, but not everyone wants to spend money on a free-to-play game. Other than the timers, Monsterama Planet is a pretty addictive game, especially if you enjoy playing city builder games on your mobile device.
All things considered, I give Monsterama Planet a 7/10.
