How much World of Warcraft players are there in the world

Blizzard has been quoted as saying there are over 9 million or 15 million monthly subscriptions world wide. Whether all of these play on a regular basis or included 'closed' accounts we don't know. Recently they have advertised "11 million subscribers" which is really an estimate at best because "subscribers" may just mean accounts and players can make multiple accounts
