Is there a cover system in Metal Gear Solid 4

Yeah, there is. To use cover, stand near a sturdy object (wall, car, box, etc etc) and press Triangle. This should make Snake link up to that object. you can move snake left and right to peek and shoot. Press Triangle once more to walk away from cover.
