What are the blue crystals used for in happy street

Every player in happy street has a specific colour of crystal (found in the rock in the forest). This can be blue, red or yellow.
Crystals are needed to upgrade the Friend's Hotel.
Other coloured crystals can be aquired by sending requests to friends with the desired colours.
