Are there any books on writing Bots

I want to know. I want to make software bots or macros to do tasks for me, like run my pc or mac, solve mathematical problems, search the web for information, make my pc do things for me at certain times, etceterais there an abc, step by step process, or set of basic software tools or building blocks I can use to block diagram, test, and build bots to serve my needs?
