In sonic adventure 2 battle does it take a long time for chao to mate naturally

Not really they usually mate every one or two years. Besides its a lot faster and easier to use heart fruit. All you have to do is get two evolved chao and and two heart fruits and feed them to the ones you want to mate. It does take about 3 hours for a year to pass in chao time. So I guess it does take a while.
