Pokemon Platinum Gym Guide Series: Hearthome City

Pokemon Platinum Gym Series: Hearthome Gym Challenge

You will meet your Couch as you enter the Gym. He will explain the rules of the Gym here, that everyone has a flashlight. Everyone who faces each other with a flashlight will fight. After that, he explains that you need to find the Blue Tile on the floor and then find the matching Red Tile in front of one of the doors. This door will take you into the next room. All the other doors will take you back to the entrance of the Gym. Each Symbol is random, so you will need to investigate the room and find it in each room. Inside of this Gym, Dark Type attacks are going to be very helpful as they are Super Effective against Ghost Type Pokemon.

In the first room, you will find two trainers, one of the left hand side and one on the right hand side. The one of the left is Lass Molly, who will send out a Misdreavus lvl. 23. The other trainer is Youngerster Donny. He will start with a Gastly lvl. 20, then use a Drifloon lvl. 22. After them, explore the area, looking for the blue panel then find the matching red tile in front of the door and head on through.

In the second room, there are four trainers, two on each side.
The ones of the left are:
School Kid Mackenzie who has two Drifloon lvl. 21. He might use a Super Potion, so keep your own Pokemon healthy, especially since they have the ability Aftermath.
Ace Trainer Catherine who has a Haunter lvl. 23 and Misdreavus lvl. 24.
On the Right is:
School Kid Chance, who has a Gastly lvl. 23
Ace Trainer Allen, who has Gastly lvl 21, 22 and Haunter lvl 24.

That just leaves Fantina in the next room. Time for the Gym Leader Battle:
Fantina focuses on Ghost type Pokemon. This keeps it so Normal/Fighting type attacks cannot hit them, but it does make it so the Ghost Type Moves will never affect Normal/Fighting Type Pokemon. Here, having a Pokemon with Dark Type attacks will prove to be a true boon in taking down Fantina. This gives those who chose Turtwig a distinct advantage, as it learns Bite at level 21. Chimchar and Piplup can still fare well, but they cannot use any Normal or Fighting Moves. Attack using the various other types of attacks. Piplup will have to worry about facing Magical Leaf versus the Mismagius, you have been warned.

Super Potion: 2

Pokemon:
Duskull lvl 24 – Will O' Wisp, Future Sight, Shadow Sneak and Pursuit
Haunter lvl 24 – Shadow Claw, Sucker Punch, Hypnosis and Confuse Ray
Mismagius lvl 26 – Shadow Ball, Psybeam, Magical Leaf and Confuse Ray – Sitrus Berry

When you beat her, you will receive the Relic Badge, allowing you to use Defog outside of battle, an essential for progressing through the game, and she will give you TM 65, Shadow Claw. Shadow Claw has a high critical hit ration and it is a Ghost Type attack. Time to move on in the game.
